
It all started with a simple idea – an idea to instill a little twist to the classic Kerala style beef fry .
Well, who doesn’t love a good stir fried beef curry. I think you just can’t go wrong with it.
I love to cook some good food from scratch on weekends, and everyone just loves this dish. Tender pieces of beef cooked inspices, shallots, plus plenty of ground black pepper – you’ll definitely L.O.V.E. it.

Ingredients
- ▢ 500 g flank steak sirloin steak or rump steak, cut into long strips
- ▢ 1 tablespoon oil + 1 teaspoon oil
- ▢ 4-5 shallots sliced
- ▢ 2 garlic cloves peeled and sliced
- ▢ 2 cm piece fresh ginger sliced
- ▢ 1-2 green chilies sliced
- ▢ ½ teaspoon ground turmeric turmeric powder
- ▢ 2 teaspoon ground coriander coriander powder
- ▢ ½ - 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- ▢ 1 teaspoon garam masala
- ▢ 2 teaspoon crushed black peppercorns
- ▢ ½ teaspoon mustard seeds
- ▢ Salt to taste
- ▢ 1 sprig of curry leaves optional
Instructions
- Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a wok or large frying pan or high heat. Add oil and swirl around to coat the sides of the wok.
- Add beef. Stir fry 2-3 minutes or until beef is browned and just cooked. Transfer to a plate. Stir fry beef in batches if needed. (Alternatively, you can cook the beef in a pressure cooker. Place beef alongside ½ cup water in the pressure cooker. Season with salt. Cook until 5-6 whistles)
- Heat 1 teaspoon oil in the wok over medium-high heat. Add mustard seeds and allow to splutter. Add shallots, and sauté, stirring occasionally, for 1-2 minutes or until browned. Add garlic and ginger. Sauté, stirring, for 1 minute or until fragrant.
- Add green chilies (if using). Sauté, stirring, for a few seconds. Add ground turmeric, ground coriander and red chili powder. Stir fry for few seconds.
- Add beef, garam masala, crushed peppercorns and curry leaves (if using). Stir fry for 1 minute or until the beef strips get a dark brown color.
- Garnish with more curry leaves if you like. Serve with rice or noodles
