Why I Love This Indian Flatbread

What’s better than a freshly cooked flatbread? If you’re trying to master your culinary skills, the answer is definitely all about whipping up the traditional bread. Well, I used to think making flatbread is a huge culinary mission, but it turns out to be one of the easiest and satisfying ways to make homemade meal. Trust me, it literally makes you feel like a dough wizard, and the aroma is simply mesmerizing. The best part? Your favorite homemade Indian flatbread doesn’t require the fancy tandoor oven in Indian restaurants. Make it in the oven in the comfort of your home.

The secret is pizza stone. Preheat the stone, place the rolled out dough on it, and watch it puff up. It’s pure magic! Believe it or not, naan made on pizza stone hits different. Charred flavor, burnt spots, puffy texture - just the way you want it.

Key Ingredients In This Flatbread

  • Flour - The simple flour is the base of this recipe.
  • Yeast - This is a yeasted flatbread and it’s imperative for the puffy texture.
  • Yogurt - Makes the bread soft.

How To Make Naan (Baked)

Prep the dough - Simply mix together flour, yogurt, yeast and milk to form the dough. Ideally, it needs to be soft. As this is a yeasted bread, you can let the dough rise for about 2 hours. Place the dough in a warm spot in your kitchen to facilitate the process.

Roll out and bake - Divide the large dough ball into smaller balls and roll out using your hands. This goes on to a preheated pizza stone, and bake in the oven. Finally, you can brush with a little butter for that classic glaze.
