It’s been a while I shared an easy appetizer recipe on the blog, so why not create a delicious masterpiece with classic paneer today? Just in case you are not familiar with paneer, it’s a traditional Indian style cottage cheese with a super soft texture. Paneer is one of my absolute favorites, so creating super delicious dishes with this beautiful cheese is always fun.

This paneer tikka or skewers is a well-loved classic perfect for summer entertaining. Did I mention that it’s super easy to make and tastes beyond amazing?

Ok, let’s start cooking. Start with making the spicy masala to marinate paneer cubes. Place garlic, ginger, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, chat masala and red chili powder in a bowl.

Chat masala is synonymous with Indian street foods, and I love that extra delicious touch it imparts to this paneer tikka. The heat factor and color of these paneer skewers come from red chili powder. If you’re after more color and less heat, Kashmiri chili powder is the way to go.

Next up, add in a little yogurt to bring everything together and make a smooth paste. Oh, and don’t forget the seasoning. Now, all you need to do is coat paneer cubes well in the marinade. Even though I always prefer homemade paneer to make these skewers, store bought fresh or frozen paneer makes the whole process much easier.

Now, the quintessential equipment you’ll need to make paneer tikka. Bamboo skewers. Soak them for about 20 minutes to prevent them from burning during the grilling process.

At this stage, you can either leave them to marinate for about 30 minutes or place them straight on the grill. Cook both sides. Done! So simple!

Grab a skewer, dip in your favorite chutney or sauce, enjoy. Now get the recipe to make the easiest appetizer for your next gathering.
